Students will read a familiar story, and then act out the story using a variety of story-telling devices (puppets, costumes, props, masks, character voices).  The emphasis will be on teaching students to use their voice, their gestures, facial expressions, etc. to become confident in front of a group.  Instructor:  C. Students in grades 3-7 (younger with teacher approval) will learn songs in 2-part harmony, sing simple rounds and choruses, and learn basic music theory, including note reading, rhythm, and following a director.  Students will take some class time to learn songs to sing with the LAH Choir at the Fine Arts Spring Presentation Night on May 14 and other possible performances.  Students will be prepared to enter the LAH Choir upon completion of Children’s Choir.  All performance opportunities are optional, but encouraged.  Instructors:  T. Puppet Drama

This student-led praise band will sing and play a variety of instruments to contemporary worship choruses and learn music ministry leadership skills.  Students will be encouraged to develop a skill in playing an instrument, learn to sing harmony, and develop worship leadership skills to enhance their church worship services.  Instructors:  T. Students in this class will learn the basic skills to enable them to sew a Renaissance or Regency style dress for the Spring Formal, or they can bring a pattern of their choice to sew.  They will select a pattern, fabric, and will work on the garment at home, bringing it to class to have an experienced seamstress assist them in completing the dress.  Instructor:  M. Melody Masters is available for half hour or hour long private lessons for individual students or families.  Depending on their level, students may learn accelerated note reading, playing by ear, playing improvisationally, chord substitution techniques, transposing on demand, modulation, being able to accompany oneself while singing, playing different styles, and being able to transfer music theory skills to other instruments.  Parents should enroll in the class with their children if possible.  The instructor of this class has over 40 years experience in training church pianists.  Instructor:  M. Music Exploration

Students will explore music in lots of fun and interesting ways.  Students will also use the popular boom whackers: a fun and simple way to introduce kids to the science behind sound.  Students will learn to play the musical scale and discover the joy of making chords and melodies using the unique boom whackers instruments, resonance tubes of differing lengths that briefly make a musical pitch when “whacked” against a table.  Instructor:  A. Students will use Sculpey clay to make miniature clay objects such as a dinosaur, cat, pig, ladybug, etc.  Students will use basic sculpting techniques, and will be exercising fine motor skills to create clay babies.  Last year, the students made a frog, rabbit, duck, bear and a butterfly; look for other animals this year. LAH Choir Hour 1

LAH Choir students must sign up for both hours of Choir.  Students wishing to participate in the LAH Choir should be prepared to commit to the additional performance opportunities, which include the NFMC festival tentatively scheduled for Mar 12, & possible Branson Festival April 22-24, Spring Presentation Night May 15, LAH graduation May 22, and some possible unannounced performances.  Students will be required to sign an LAH Choir Covenant in order to enroll in the class.  New students must commit to completing one full semester.  Mrs. Smith will rehearse on the 4th Thursdays, while Mrs. Popejoy runs parts with students on the 2nd Thursdays.  Experienced choir students, are encouraged to enroll in Music Performers 2nd/Choir 4th.  These students will rehearse with Mrs. Smith on the 4th Thursdays, and attend Music Performers on the 2nd Thursdays.  Director:  K. Moms’ Movie Viewer Extradordinaire

Students will learn how to draw simple building projects on paper, using perspective and basic drafting concepts.  Students will also learn drawing techniques such as linear perspective and shading.  Instructor:  Glenn White

Students will learn all the scales, key signatures, and all chords in the key of C.  You will learn these backwards and forwards, in arpeggios, inversions, and if mastered, will go on to different keys.  Students will be encouraged to use these chords while playing songs by ear. Beginner Chalk Pastel Drawing

Local artist will assist students create a color wheel and identify pastel tools and their use.  Students will complete several practice projects and watch demos of artist working with chalk pastels.  In the remaining classes, students will work on their project while learning how to blend, shade, draw with an eraser, and complete their project.  Students will be required to complete this class or equivalent before taking Advanced Chalk Pastel.  Instructor:  D. This peer-led class will allow experienced students to learn rhythm patterns, and experiment with various simple rhythms and ordinary instruments to create complex rhythm patterns when combined in a group.  The students will combine rhythm, drama, and performance techniques to create an unusual presentation.  The class will work on a piece to perform at the Fine Arts Spring Presentation Night on May 14.  Audition required on August 3rd.  Peer Leader:  L. Musical Arrangements for Keyboard

Students will learn the basics of taking a hymn or worship song and using chords, transitions, runs, and fillers to arrange a piece suitable for performance or for church worship. Students should be able to read music at a proficient level to play hymns and/or be able to play by ear.  Students will analyze the chord structure of a hymn/chorus, and add runs, arpeggios and advanced chording techniques to turn a simple hymn into a performance opportunity.  The instructor of this class has over 40 years experience in training church pianists.  The cost of this class averages to $5 per one-hour lesson – what a deal!  Instructor:  M. Scales & Key Signatures.  Every musician needs to know about key signatures, and how to form scales.  From beginners to advanced students, this class will concentrate only on this one topic.  You will have mastered it by the end of the semester.  The instructor of this class has over 40 years experience in training church musicians.  If you pay the family fee, your whole family can enroll in as many of M. LAH Worship Orchestra

Students will learn basic music theory and ear training to enable them to be a group musician in an informal church orchestra.  Students will work on songs to perform at the Fine Arts Spring Presentation Night and at the spring formal.  Adult beginners and/or mentors are welcome.  Perfect for strings, brass, woodwind, and percussion instruments.  Students will learn to play a melody or harmony line, by ear, will learn to dictate simple melodies on the staff, and might read some traditional sheet music.  Students are encouraged to enroll in the Springfield Orchestra for advanced classical training; the LAH Worship Orchestra focuses on arrangements with the available instruments, blending, harmonizing, and simple, beautiful tones, to enhance and support a church worship service.  Peer Leader:  T.
